[2007-02-28] - Avni Sahin, , Manager Meteksan Russia
Dear Mr. Maximov: I'm writing to you to commend your team member, Miss Viktoria Morgunova. I have been staying at Hotel Sovietsky for over two weeks by now and since I've been here, Miss Viktoria has been a great person to get help from. When I need some information from her, I always get it sooner than I expected. She is also extremely knowledgeable. I can't begin to tell you how valuable her kindness and knowledge were to me during my stay. My stay at the Sovietsky has been exceptional because of her kidness and helping me and my business friends who also stay at Hotel Sovietsky. Her professionalism, and her performance have been outstanding. With best regadrs, Avni Sahin, Manager Meteksan Russia

Best Director, I would like to inform you that during my time which I spent in your Hotel I received Great Service from the personnel of all departments and I am delighted by the Breakfast Buffet and the very nice and smiling staff. It is great to start the day after having such good and qualitative food. I want to thank you for managing such great, smart and lovely staff. I would love to return to the Sovietsky every time I'm visiting the Great Russia! Thank you very much and best regards.

We stayed in several hotels in Moscow and the Sovietsky - while by no means the most luxurious and certainly not the most expensive - was definitely our favourite. The rooms were huge, the interior - with portraits of Stalin on every floor - conveyed a sense of history and the corridors smelled attractively of wood polish. We ate delicious veal stroganoff in the grand dining room while watching the spectacular floor show. A great hotel and very good value indeed.

This hotel is great. They'd be charging a whole lot more with a better location, but they're only about 20 minutes from Red Square by subway, including a ten-minute walk from Dynamo station. Once there, you'll hardly want to leave. The Historic Hotel Sovietsky is grand, clean, friendly and opulent. They have live classical music in the lobby every morning (and perhaps other times but we weren't there), an abundant and beautiful breakfast buffet, gorgeous rooms, and even a little art gallery on the second floor. Oh, and there's a free business center with two computers, a printer and internet. The hotel is really too wonderful for me to describe, so I'll attach photos. We really liked this place and the people who work there. Booking was challenging for me. Lots of agents offered deals but there was always some problem with availability or ambiguous exchange rates. Finally we booked through Academservice, who took all the mystery out of the process and got us an amazingly low price. Academservice is on the web at ---. The hotel's site is ---, where you can get more pictures of the hotel and learn the asking price of different rooms. To get to the hotel, take the subway to Dynamo station. Exit the station by the doors behind the train, assuming your train came out from the Red Square area. Walk straight ahead through the park and then go one more block. The hotel's big red flag ahead of you will be obvious once you leave the park.

Grand entrances and marble staircases set the scene for this impressive hotel that does not look much from the street. It is 5 minutes from Dinamo metro or 10 minutes from Belorusskaya metro then 3/4 stops or 5 minutes to the centre. Alternatively a number 12 trolley bus from the end of the road goes straight into town. The reception area is massive with friendly eanglish speaking reception and concierge staff. There is an exchange office and cash machine in the foyer. Most of the staff speak some english (even the maintenance men) and are invariably friendly. Breakfast is an extensive buffet often with more staff than customers and a chef is on standby to cook eggs and make omelettes to order. The rooms vary from the ordinary (which we had) to very expensive suites, but even the ordinary rooms are imrpessive if a little faded. Sheets and linen are changed daily, slippers, shoe cleaners and toothbrushes are provided. Satellite TV is in the roome but only in Russian though often dubbed american programmes! The maids turn down the beds in the evening and leave chocolates on the pillow. Rooms have tea making equipment and maids leave bottled water daily. The YAR restaurant in the hotel was smarter and more expensive than we wanted but there are bars and a bistro restaurant that is less expensive and room service meals are well priced, too. There are fast food places (KFC, Pizza Hut) and an Italian restaurant close to Belorusskaya and a great choice of restaurants near the Bolshoi just down the metro. The hotel is just past the end of the smart Tverskaya shopping district and although it feels a little out of the way it is easy to get into town. We never felt threatened at all walking to the hotel late in the evening through what is mainly a residential area but care needs to be taken around Belorusskaya as near mainline stations in any city. This place is a true experience!!!

I travelled to Moscow on a business trip last year and stayed for six weeks at the Sovietsky and what a magnificent experience it was, couldn't fault the place if I tried. But, the very best was next door at the 'YAR' restaurant entered along a corridor past the hotel lounge and dining area, truly the best restaurant in the world. The food, the wine list, the service and the fantastic show are all amazing, I ate there several times and was always blown away. Try it!.
